The Earliest White Mountain Paintings: 1800 - 1850

Thomas Cole and Other Hudson River School Artists

This exhibition tells the story of Thomas Cole's first visit to the White Mountains in 1827, when he climbed Mt Chocorua and walked through Crawford Notch, a trip considered a wilderness adventure. Prints of Cole's White Mountain paintings and maps of his joiurney will be on display, as well as the earliest (pre-1850) paingtings of other artists.
